Yes, to see another dr in 24 hrs. This was a 6mo well check visit, though. Other than this darn skull fusion, she’s absolutely healthy and developing beautifully!! She weighs 22lb (over 100th percentile again) and is 27 1/4 long (95th percentile). This compares from 2 mo ago, she has gained 3lb and grew 2in….wow!! All is well, the doc was pleased to know her surgery was next week. This was the same pediatrician that discovered her abnormality…so thankful for him!!

She’s starting to babble new consanants like her “b”‘s, still spitting (which is absolutely funny to me!), plays with her passy, still eats a full bottle every 4-5 hrs and eats 2 jars of baby food per day!! Giggles all the time. No teeth yet, but I’m anticipating any time now…with all the slobber and her gnawing on everything she can get her hands on. Of course Blake was this same way for months and he didn’t get his first tooth until he was 11 mo old!! So anytime…in the next year, I’m expecting a tooth!!!!

Was really sweet, Blake didn’t see Brynn at all yesterday since we had to take her to UNC early in am and didn’t get home until late with him as well. After her bath, he was lying in bed and reached out his arms for her and said he wanted to hold her. I layed her down in his arms and he hugged her tight and gave her kisses to her head…she just started babbling. Blake hadn’t reached out to her like this since she was about 2 months old…almost brought a tear to my eye. Guess he really did miss his sister!! Awesome to see their connection sometimes! He made sure he made her laugh all the way to the sitters this morning while they were in the car…they sit right beside each other, facing each other of course…so they have no choice but to communicate sometimes!!! He does love to make her laugh!! I feel like I have such special babies!!!!

Plastic Surgeon Consult

Today was the big day meeting the plastic surgeon, Dr Gage. Very professional and informative, we thought. Allen and I left thinking, “wow, we do feel much better about things”, still scared, but more comfortable. Several things about this process are better than what we were expecting. First off, they will not shave any of her hair. The surgeon said he was trained doing this procedure without shaving the hair and with as small of an incision as possible, starting about 1 inch above each ear and meeting at the crown of her head. Also, no drains will be placed post op and no dressings/ turbans/ gauze over the incision. He likes to see the surgical site and monitor the surrounding area. Again, they emphasized the horrible swelling she’ll have 24-36 hr post op. We cannot prepare ourselves enough for this….it’s just going to look bad. Another wonderful plus, the actual surgery will not be 4 hrs, but the entire process of prepping her with anesthesia, IV’s, procedure, recovery, will take this length of time. The surgery itself will take approximately 2-2.5 hrs, so we won’t have to hold our breaths THAT long! This made us feel SO good! She’ll be in ICU that night and then transferred to a floor bed. Sometimes, the surgeon has been so pleased with recoveries he has sent children home on the 3rd day….home by Sunday?! super excited again!! Still all of this is depending on HER.

Today was 3 hrs at the children’s hospital of meeting with the surgeon, nurses, anesthesiologist, drawing labs, and signing consents. We were tired but Brynn was such a trooper. She sat on my lap during each consult and just watched the person speaking so intently. Didn’t even cry with the 1st lab stick…I was quite impressed, 2nd lab stick (1st unsuccessful)…she let em have it…she was not a happy camper but easily consolable. She is so strong.

She will meet with the neurosurgeon about 2-3 wks post op and plastic surgeon 5-6 wks post op. At that time (5-6wks post op) the swelling should be completely subsided. The shape of her head will be changed immediately after surgery due to the re-shaping that’ll be done in the OR.

So overall, day of good news! Her surgery is set for Jan 20th, next Friday. It’s coming so quickly. Don’t think we can prepare ourselves anymore than we have, except prayer. So many people have her in their thoughts and prayers, we are so overwhelmed with…..everything. Things are working out smoothly….as smooth as they can be…and she’s as happy and loved, as a little girl can be!!

Grandpa and Dee got to come visit and eat lunch with us to celebrate Christmas. Had a great visit, really must have been, we all 3 went to sleep right after they left around 2-3, I just woke up (it’s 5:00) and both kids still asleep, talk about making it a late night on christmas eve. Allen, of course, is working night shift so hoping the kids will wake up around the time he gets home on Christmas morning!

Also went to Julie’s for our girl’s night like we do every Christmas.
